Bionic “Eyes” Will Make the Blind See in Less Than Five Years

Researchers have developed a groundbreaking “biomimetic” eye as sensitive as a human retina. Expected to be available within the next five years, the device may prove life-changing for the visually impaired!

“Our ‘biomimetic’ eye … can be used for the visual prosthesis to help the blind or those visually impaired,” says Zhiyong Fan, author of the study and engineer at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. “It can lead to a bionic eye. The unique design has the potential to provide even better resolution vision than human eyes.”

According to the study published in the Nature journal, the bionic ElectroChemical EYE device also has great potential to be used in humanoid robots in the future.
