At Paris Fashion Shows the World Gets Greener

Attending the fashion shows in Paris last week, I was impressed with the eco-responsible politics of the major brands. Fashion Week is definitely going green.

More than ever, there’s been pressure applied to designers and brands at fashion month to tackle the industry’s responsibility to consider the environment.

Dior for example opted to stage the runway in a secret woodland garden – the 164 trees from France, Germany and Italy that featured in the show will be planted in sustainability projects around Paris, Dior said their show is also in keeping with its zero-waste policy, with the rest of the set being completely recyclable and plastic-free. Also Stella McCartney presented a 75 percent eco-friendly line. Vivienne Westwood, supporter of the association Cool Earth and ambassador of Greenpeace, came up with tissues from Mali and the collections motto “reduce, reuse, rethink”. I was happy to see that Fashion Week has become much more than a bonfire of the vanities.
