Twibber Stories Germany2900 Village People Celebrate Award
Since 2020, I have been working as the mayor of Huglfing near Schongau-Weilheim in Southern Bavaria. That’s why I’m most delighted that Huglfing has been voted recently as the most liveable village in Europe by the Entente Florale Europe Competition. As for excellence in horticulture, sustainability.
Mostly, my village, with its picturesque cobblestone paths and farmhouses adorned with handcrafted wooden ornaments and birdhouses, has been chosen not only for its beauty but also because we, with 2,900 inhabitants, have a well-functioning infrastructure. In our village, which has bravely existed for about 100 years, we have bakeries, a butcher, two restaurants, a pharmacist, and a post office – everything you need.
I think the European jury likely chose us over competitors like Nice or Nantes in France because we are a very human village. The jury that visited Huglfing saw that there is a strong community with many non-profit associations that hold us together. The new gold medal makes us even stronger.
