More Kids Can Now Travel for Free Here

Ireland has expanded free travel to children aged five to eight years old, a move aimed at easing costs for families and encouraging more use of buses, trains, and trams.

“This expansion will benefit almost 236,000 additional children and their families, reducing costs while laying the foundations for lifelong sustainable travel habits,” said Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien.

The change, launched this September, extends the existing scheme that already covered younger children. Officials say it will help shape early habits around public transportation, while making daily life easier for households nationwide.
