Women’s Participation Holds Key to Economic Prosperity

In Albania, steady economic growth has helped reduce poverty and increase employment, laying the groundwork for further social progress.

“Closing gender gaps in employment alone could lead to a significant 12 per cent increase in long-term GDP per capita,” the report highlights, underscoring the decisive role of women’s participation in shaping the country’s future.

Between 2016 and 2024, Albania’s employment rate rose to 68.6 per cent, and wages increased by nearly 10 per cent across all sectors, while unemployment fell to 9.4 per cent. Yet youth joblessness remains high, and female employment has declined slightly. By improving labour market conditions and unlocking women’s full potential, Albania could translate its growing human capital into lasting prosperity and progress toward high-income status.
