There’s Now a Loud and Clear Ban on Child Marriage Here

Grenada has raised the legal marriage age to 18 without exception, closing all legal pathways that previously allowed children to marry.

“This administration sees it fit to prioritise our children to be children,” said Seville Francis, Senator and parliamentary sponsor of the bill.

The reform removes parental consent and special licences that had enabled 16 and 17-year-olds to marry, aligning national law with international human rights standards. Passed in November 2025, the legislation strengthens protections for young people, supports education and gender equality, and advances Grenada’s commitment to end child marriage by 2030 under the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
