Chicago is Number One on the List of Green Office Cities – and Keeps Getting Greener

The Windy City is also the greenest to work in: for three years in a row, Chicago, Illinois has been ranked number one in the United States by CBRE Group Inc. for its green office space certified for environmental efficiency.

The city – which has been steadily increasing its certified green office space, now up to 71.1% – aims to have 100% renewable energy in all its properties by 2025, as well as its own clean energy rating system for buildings.

Spencer Levy, chairman of Americas Research for CBRE, explains that the ranking benefits cities with newer office buildings, adding, “The next frontier is going to be taking these older buildings and finding ways to make them green and sustainable”.

According to CBRE, around 42.2% of all office space in the 30 biggest U.S. markets is now certified green.
