First Hindu Woman Joins Police Force in Islamic Pakistan Province

In the midst of tension between Islamic Pakistan and majority Hindu India, young Pushpa Kohli has joined the police force as Assistant Sub Inspector in the province Sindh. It is a historic moment for the large, mostly rural province.

Kapil Dev, Pakistani human rights activist, posted the news on Twitter, after which it spread all over social media showing major support for women’s empowerment. Pushpa Kohli beat hundreds of applicants in a string of exams and tests.

Suman Pawan Bodani, another girl from the Hindu community in Sindh, shares a similar success story, having been appointed a judge to the civil and judicial magistrate in January. According to Pakistani reports, Bodani says she was able to achieve her dreams thanks to the full support of her family.
