Society KyrgyzstanNew Rail Link Set to Transform Global Trade Routes
Kyrgyzstan has secured a $4.7 billion financing deal for a major cross-border railway linking China and Uzbekistan, paving the way for faster trade and stronger regional connectivity.
“This achievement deserves high praise and clearly demonstrates the readiness of the Joint Project Company to implement international-level projects,” said Bakyt Torobayev.
The 530 km railway will connect Kashgar in China to Andijan in Uzbekistan via Kyrgyzstan, forming a new east–west corridor that could cut delivery times to Europe by up to seven days. Designed to carry up to 15 million tonnes of cargo annually, the project includes 50 bridges and 29 tunnels across mountainous terrain, with approximately 40% of the route requiring complex engineering. Once completed, it is expected to strengthen Central Asia’s role as a key global transit hub, improve trade efficiency and support long-term economic growth across the region.
