Environment The WorldSky High Sales for Electric Vehicles (Again!)
Global electric vehicle sales rose by 15% year-on-year and 5% month-on-month in August 2025 — proof that the transition to clean transport is accelerating.
“Global EV sales have now reached 12.5 million units in the opening eight months of the year,” commented Charles Lester, Data Manager at Rho Motion.
Around 1.7 million EVs were sold globally in August, including 1.16 million battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and 0.57 million plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Through the first eight months of 2025, global sales totalled 12.5 million units, up 25% compared with the same period in 2024. Europe leads with a 31% growth rate. Germany and the UK are especially strong, with Spain and Italy more than doubling their year-to-date sales. In North America, EV sales are also rising, thanks in part to consumers rushing to utilise tax credits before they expire. This momentum suggests cleaner, electric mobility is becoming the norm, not the exception.
