Enjoy a Restaurant Meal in the Privacy of your (Rolling) Home

My wife and I own in the third generation the hotel-restaurant Leinsweiler Hof in the german state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Due to coronavirus the restaurant currently has to remain closed. That’s why we came up with an idea to beat the lockdown rules:

Why not offer camper van dining? Our parking spot has space for 27 motorhomes, about 60 people can be served. They make a reservation, choose from a menu and then get their 3 or 4 courses (whether barbaric duck, beef fillet, or walnut brownie with homemade ice cream) delivered to the door of their van. Porcelain, cloches, cutlery, and cloth napkins included.

The „meals on wheels“ are now offered by several hundred restaurants in Germany, on Facebook a group of 30000 fans shares news. For the guests, a fine dining experience in lockdown times, for us a chance to get through the crisis and to keep our kitchen staff employed.

We even founded an initiative with other restaurants in our local community, „Leinsweiler sticks together“ – a nice spirit of togetherness in difficult times!
