27 Cities Are Racing Towards a Lower Carbon Future

At least 27 of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group member cities have peaked their greenhouse gas emissions and are already on their way towards meeting the goal of the Paris Agreement. The 27 cities represent 54 million people and $6 trillion in GDP.

In a period of 5 years, cities have seen at least a 10% reduction in emissions, while populations and economies grew, thanks to city officials working on improving their areas through improved waste management, transportation and energy use, to name a few.

“It is an incredible achievement for these 27 cities, including Paris, to have peaked their emissions,” says Mayor of Paris and Chair of C40, Anne Hidalgo. “As the greatest custodians of the Paris Agreement, mayors of the world’s great cities have once again shown that cities are getting the job done.”
