Corona Shut Down: Cinema Staff Now Works in Supermarkets

While entertainment facilities are shut down in the Arab world due to the coronavirus outbreak, staff are being retrained to help supermarkets with the increasing demand as people stock up at home.

Lifestyle provider Majid Al Futtaim has announced that over 1,000 staff members who work in leisure, entertainment and cinema were being reskilled to join retail giant Carrefour – in the UAE as well as in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman and Lebanon – to help with food packaging, online orders, and other needs.

“In times of uncertainty, our commitment to our community of customers, employees, tenants and suppliers only becomes stronger,” says Alain Bejjani, Chief Executive Officer at Majid Al Futtaim. “The employee redeployment programme is a fantastic opportunity for our leisure, entertainment and cinema employees to continue to learn and explore new experiences in other parts of our business during this time.”

Not only does the staff receive job training prior to their new roles, but they also receive health and safety training, abiding by the precautions set by Carrefour.
