The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) collects unused medications from residents as part of the Clean Your Cabinet campaign and provides the underprivileged community with medicines worth half a million UAE dirhams each month.
The DHA has revealed that Dubai residents have a large amount of unused medicines in their home, both expired and well within the expiry dates.
The campaign encourages people to hand over both their expired and valid medicines to pharmacies across the city, instead of discarding them as waste, to help the needy and shield the environment from water and soil pollution.
Dr Ali Syed, director of DHA’s pharmaceutical division, explains, “The aim of the campaign is two-fold — safe and effective disposal of deteriorated or expired medicines and donation of valid medications to charities.”
