Clean Energy Investment Sparks a Brighter Future

A major new initiative will channel $636 million into renewable power and modernised grids across Africa, helping millions gain access to clean, reliable electricity. The funding will strengthen infrastructure, expand rural electrification, and accelerate the continent’s transition toward sustainable energy.

“The choices Africa makes today are shaping the future of the entire world,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “A clean energy transition will create jobs, stability, growth, and the delivery of our global climate goals.”

The investment supports solar, wind, and hydropower projects, as well as grid upgrades that link multiple countries for more efficient energy sharing. With 600 million people still lacking access to electricity, this marks a significant step toward powering communities, boosting local economies, and advancing global climate progress.
