Poverty declined across all regions of Indonesia, with 430,000 fewer people living below the poverty line between September 2025 and March 2026.

“Compared to September 2025, poverty rates fell across all regions in Indonesia, with Java recording the sharpest decline at 0.21 percentage points,” said Edy Mahmud, Deputy for Balance Sheet and Statistical Analysis at Statistics Indonesia.

The national poverty rate fell from 8.25% to 8.07%, reducing the number of people living in poverty from 23.36 million to 22.93 million. Both urban and rural areas recorded improvements, although rural poverty remained higher at 10.67%, compared with 6.34% in cities. The government is aiming to reduce the national poverty rate further to between 6% and 6.5% by 2027.
