Lynn and Lilly Shake up Thailand Greta Style

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg has inspired children worldwide to boost climate awareness, and now, two young Thai “Gretas” are doing the very same for their community.

The day 21-year-old Nanticha “Lynn” Ocharoenchai held Thailand’s very first climate strike in March of last year, Ralyn “Lilly” Satidtanasarn – aged 11 at the time – submitted an open letter to the prime minister with the help of her classmates to demand urgent climate action.

Locals often describe the Lilly and Lynn as Thailand’s version of Greta Thunberg, as they work on a mutual mission to raise awareness of the need to halt the impacts of climate change, especially affecting their nation with warmer temperature, higher sea-levels, floods and droughts.

Lilly now meets with businesses and the government seeking solutions on how to care more about the environment, while Lynn has led two more strikes since her first. Her “Climate Strike Thailand” Facebook page already has 5,000 followers since its inception earlier this year.

“These climate strikes are by no means methods to solve the problem,” says Lynn. “It’s just the beginning where you acknowledge the problem.”
