A man is a man is a woman – more freedom for transgender people

Tasmania is on the way to become Australia’s first state to make it optional to list gender on birth certificates. The landmark bill will become a law shortly, after it was approved by the state’s lower and upper house.

People aged 16 and above can now apply to change their listed gender without the approval of their parents. The bill put an end also to the condition that had required transgender people to have surgery bevor their gender was recognized.
