Hundreds of thousands of people will soon have access to clean water in Rwanda.
“The goal is to ensure a stable and safe water supply for communities living in volcanic regions, mitigating risks associated with water shortages, and addressing the issue of fetching water in the nearby national park,” says Vincent de Paul Mugwaneza, water supply officer at the Water and Sanitation Corporation.
The project, located in Rwanda’s volcanic region, is set to ensure access to clean water for roughly 354,000 people. Local communities will soon benefit from the project, ensuring improved hygiene, health, and overall quality of life for many. It will also help Rwanda achieve its goal of 100 per cent water supply access across the country by 2029. “It [the project] will support this area in the fight against waterborne diseases and, of course, improve livelihood and hygiene at large,” adds Emelence Nirere, one of the many residents eagerly awaiting the completion of the project.
