EnvironmentTechnology IndiaAI Empowers 38 Million Farmers to Outsmart Changing Monsoon
In India, artificial intelligence has revolutionised farming by delivering 30-day-ahead monsoon forecasts to 38 million farmers, helping them plan crops, reduce losses, and adapt to climate change more effectively than ever before.
“This program harnesses the revolution in AI-based weather forecasting to empower farmers to plan agricultural activities with greater confidence and manage risks,” said Dr Meherda from India’s Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
Using advanced AI models and decades of rainfall data, scientists created an accurate blended forecast predicting an unusually erratic 2025 monsoon. Information that proved vital for farmers like Parasnath Tiwari, who switched crops and saw higher returns. The initiative marks a breakthrough in climate adaptation, demonstrating how combining technology, research, and farmer-focused communication can enhance food security and provide a model for other countries facing unpredictable weather patterns.
