Largest Tech Company on the Planet Promises: “Carbon Neutral by 2030”

The largest tech company in the world, Apple, has pledged to become carbon-neutral by the year 2030. This commitment covers not only the supply chain, but also the lifecycle of its products as well as the electricity consumed in their use.

“The innovations powering our environmental journey are not only good for the planet, they’ve helped us make our products more energy-efficient and bring new sources of clean energy online around the world,” says Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive. “Climate action can be the foundation for a new era of innovative potential, job creation, and durable economic growth. With our commitment to carbon neutrality, we hope to be a ripple in the pond that creates a much larger change.”

Apple not only vows to cut its carbon emissions, but the company also intends to fund a racial and justice initiative as part of its efforts to become greener because “systemic racism and climate change are not separate issues and they will not abide separate solutions,” says Lisa Jackson, Apple’s environmental lead.
