This Company Builds Houses and Gives Them Away (for Free!)

An architecture firm based in Ohio, United States, has set up a project through which the company gives, every year, free houses to families in need, as a way to give back to the community and be part of the housing crisis across the country.

“At the end of the day, a point that many architects take pride in is to be able to come back to something, point at it, and say that’s what we did, that’s the thing that made a difference,” says Jonathan Moody, CEO and president of the architecture firm Moody Nolan. “We fully recognize that it’s a privilege for us to be able to do this. Some people can do more. It’s not necessarily that you have to do this exactly, but do something.”

Through the Legacy House project, the largest Black-owned architecture firm in America wants to offer a free home to a family in need in all 11 cities with offices. The first Legacy House was built in Columbus, a three-bedroom home that was offered to a single mother with children as they make up a large portion of the city’s unhoused population. A second Legacy House is set to be built in Nashville, Tennessee.
