Environment USAArtists in 13 Cities Use Smoke-Eating Wonder Paint: It Cleans the Air!
Artists in 13 cities around the globe are creating huge art pieces on walls – not only to make the cities look better, but also to help clean the air. In the campaign “Converse City Forests”, launched by the American sports shoe company, artists use photocatalytic, “smoke-eating” paint.
“This technology uses light energy to break down noxious air pollutants and convert them into harmless substances,” the Converse website explains. “Any surface coated with this paint becomes an active air-purifying surface that helps protect people from harmful gases.”
Converse City Forests will help artists to create murals using pro-environmental technology in Bangkok, Warsaw, Sydney, Manila, São Paulo, Jakarta, Belgrade, Lima, Santiago, Johannesburg, Melbourne, Bogota and Panama City. Each air-purifying street art mural has the environmental impact of planting 780 trees.
