A four-year, €5.6 million water infrastructure project has been completed in Jordan, ensuring water for 125,000 people.
“The people of Jordan face tremendous challenges with water scarcity. The Netherlands is working closely with partners to implement sustainable water practices,” says Dutch Ambassador Harry Verweij.
Ageing wastewater systems in Irbid, Jordan, led to frequent sewer blockages, overflows, and floods. In a global cooperation partnership between Jordan and The Netherlands, 12 kilometres of outdated sewer pipes were replaced in Irbid, 30 kilometres of sewage pipes were cleaned, and various training programs took place to educate water management staff on infrastructure maintenance, safety protocols, and enhanced long-term water management skills. Today, the people of Irbid benefit from safe drinking water, improved sanitation, and an overall better quality of life, emphasizing the tangible results that can come through international collaborations.
