After Spectacular Pay Hike: Nobody in Bhutan Makes More Money Than Teachers

Bhutan, a small country between India and China, has just decided to make teachers and medical staff the new highest paid civil servants in the majority-Buddhist kingdom!

When the new law takes effect, teachers will see a 35% to 55% raise depending on their years of experience, with further raises to be distributed based on professional performance.

“If the pay revision comes through as proposed by the government, teaching becomes the highest paid profession in the country,” states the Bhutanese Prime Minister’s Office in a press release.

“The numbers of teachers involved in the hike are huge as there are 8,679 teachers, followed by the medical staff who number around 4,000,” adds India Express, referring to Bhutan’s population of 750,000.
