They Buy Houses, Fix Them – and Rent Them Out for Cheap

A new investment fund has launched in Britain, aimed at fighting domestic abuse as well as the nation’s shortage in housing: it buys and refurbishes safe and secure homes, and rents them out to vulnerable women and their children.

The Women in Safe Homes (WISH) fund aims to further help the homeless, ex-offenders and survivors of domestic abuse, all women, by partnering with charities so that the women also gain access to emotional or legal support. Its first partnership is set with Preston Road Women’s Centre in Hull, England, offering support services for women and their children.

WISH will start making investments in April, with a goal to provide around 750 affordable homes, through the purchase of both new and empty homes.
