EnvironmentSociety USACars, Steer Clear – E-Bikes Are Here (and They’re on a Roll)!
Electric bicycles are all the rage in the United States, and while fuel and car prices shoot up, the healthy and environmentally-friendly alternative benefits from a $4 billion tax break – just another incentive to keep the trend rolling!
In 2021, some 790,000 electric bikes were imported on American soil – a 70% increase from the year prior – against 652,000 electric cars. E-bikes imports surpasses EV imports for the second year in a row. It is also expected that some 130 million e-bikes will be sold by 2023.
Electric bicycles are more energy-efficient than electric cars – requiring less electricity to charge their batteries – and more eco-friendly – emitting between 40 and 140 times fewer kilos of greenhouse gases than a 13-kilometer-per-liter gas car. This makes e-bikes the perfect eco-friendly alternative to cars, especially when it comes to short trips.
