Society IndiaClean Toilets For Everyone (and We Mean Everyone)
Courts and tribunals across India will soon have sanitized toilets for males, females, specially-abled, and transgender people as proper sanitation is a fundamental right under the country’s Constitution.
The report emphasizes that access to justice means providing a comfortable, humane environment for every stakeholder, including judges, advocates, staff members and litigants. Proper washroom facilities must be available and maintained to ensure accessibility without discomfort or inconvenience.
Currently, 19.7% of district courts do not have separate toilets for women – a critical need due to their distinct sanitation requirements. To promote equality, dignity, and menstrual health rights, female toilets in judicial institutions will be equipped with sanitary napkin vending machines and appropriate menstrual waste disposal options. State governments will allocate funds to fix, maintain, and clean old toilets currently in unusable condition.
