Corona Shuts Down Zoo, Pandas Finally Make Love in Privacy

Ying Ying and Le Le, two giant pandas, have spent 10 years together in Hong Kong Zoo, but never mated. Now the zoo is closed and quiet during the corona crisis – and the two made love for the first time!

Giant Pandas are famous for having a very low libido, in the wild or in capture – one of the reasons their species is endangered.

Michael Boos, executive director in zoological operations to the New York Times, says, “The successful natural mating process today is extremely exciting for all of us, as the chance of pregnancy via natural mating is higher than by artificial insemination.”
