Environment ChinaCreating a “Beautiful”, More Sustainable Nation
China has continued improving its air and water quality in the first quarter of 2025.
The “Beautiful China” initiative is paving the way for a more environmentally friendly and sustainable nation, emphasizing the importance of ecological and environmental protection mechanisms throughout all social and economic development.
China’s spokesperson for the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Pei Xiaofei, recently addressed the nation with positive environmental news. The study found that a key indicator of air pollution, PM2.5, was down by 4.8 per cent in the first quarter of 2025, while the proportion of days with good air quality in Chinese cities was up 1.2 percentage points. Water quality is also improving, with 91 per cent of the country’s surface water bodies at or above Grade III of China’s five-tier water quality grading system. Surface water below Grade V – China’s lowest level – remained at 0.7 per cent. China may be on track to an environmentally prosperous 2025.
