Environment DenmarkWind Has Helped Power Almost Half of Denmark in 2019
Denmark’s wind industry fulfilled a worldwide record in generating electrical energy last year, using wind farms to cover almost half of the country’s electricity demand.
The wind farms produced 16 TWh of electricity last year, up from 13.9TWh in 2018. Industry association Wind Denmark says cost reductions and new offshore capacity were key in achieving the international all-time high of 46.9% wind power.
Jan Hylleberg, Wind Denmark’s CEO, expects the contribution of new offshore wind capacity to help the country meet half its electricity consumption through the wind industry within the next year.
