Health The WorldDonors Break the Record to Ensure Universal Vaccine Access
A record number of donors have pledged $9 billion toward ensuring universal vaccination access.
“Today’s summit is a powerful reminder that global health security is a shared responsibility. Immunization is one of its strongest foundations. We have to ensure that every person, everywhere, has access to vaccines,” says António Costa, President of the European Council.
Donations poured in from all corners of the world, including the Gates Foundation, Team Europe, Japan, the United States, philanthropic organizations, and private sector partners. The money will be given to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, as part of its five-year 2026-2030 strategic plan. The plan hopes to protect 500 million children from preventable diseases, avert between 8 and 9 million deaths, and protect the world from deadly disease outbreaks. To fully meet these goals, Gavi is hoping to secure $2.9 billion more in the coming months. All in all, the recent Health and Prosperity through Immunization Brussels summit led to displays of solidarity and commitment to global health equality.
