Federal Vehicles Could Soon Be All-Electric

By proposing to replace the United States government fleet with electric vehicles, President Biden plans on reducing the country’s carbon emissions while creating jobs for American autoworkers.

“The federal government also owns an enormous fleet of vehicles, which we’re going to replace with clean electric vehicles made right here in America made by American workers,” said President Joe Biden while signing his “Buy America” executive order.

645,000 cars and trucks would be replaced by American-made electric vehicles, and to encourage consumers to switch to eco-friendly modes of transportation, massive investments in charging station infrastructure will be made and new tax breaks will be put in place.

The pledge to replace gasoline vehicles could cost $20 billion, but also generate important savings in the long run. “Most trips are within an electric vehicle’s range, and it is the battery electric vehicle that turns out to be the most cost-effective over four years,” says Sandra Wappelhorst of the International Council for Clean Transportation. The adoption of clean and renewable energy is on Biden’s Administration agenda.
