Finns and Tourists Now Have an App to Ask: How Big Is My Carbon Footprint?

A service on the MyHelsinki website, Think Sustainably, is testing out a low-carbon ratings system to make it easier for locals in Finland’s capital city to choose eco-friendly places for food, shopping and entertainment.

Helsinki’s residents and tourists can now use the website to see just how sustainable the place they plan to spend on is. The pilot initiative has certified 80 businesses to date, awarding them with a green tag if they meet enough criteria that would dub them eco-friendly.

The capital city has an ambitious aim to be carbon neutral by 2035, and the new system has already boosted business in green-certified companies, encouraging others to go green faster as consumers become more and more climate conscious.
