This Car Can Fly, and We Might Drive It One Day!

A flying car successfully made its inaugural trip from one airport to another in Slovakia, bringing us closer to the possibility of one day traveling in vehicles with deployable wings.

The AirCar prototype, created by Klein Vision, flew during 35 minutes from Nitra to Bratislava. It takes two minutes and 15 seconds for the car to transform into an aircraft, which can reach an altitude of 2,500 m and can potentially fly about 1,000 km at a cruising speed of 170 km/h.

The flying car market is estimated to be worth $1.5 trillion by 2040. It took Klein Vision two years to develop the AirCar prototype, with an investment of less than $2.4 million. The concept which is “part of our future”, as Hyundai Motors Europe chief executive Michael Cole puts it, could be a solution to reduce the strain on existing transport infrastructures.
