Nigeria is experiencing a decisive shift as millions of girls and women gain access to education, health care, and financial independence through a coordinated effort supported by the International Development Association.
“Thanks to digital and life skills training, I graduated from school and became a graphic designer and public speaker,” said Maryam Ma’aruf, a 2024 graduate of Government Girls College, Katsina State.
Since 2019, initiatives such as the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment and the Nigeria for Women Program have reached more than 4 million girls and 1 million women across 18 states, improving schools, creating 22,000 women’s savings groups, and delivering health, nutrition, and livelihood support to over 50 million people. Together, these programmes are building human capital, expanding opportunities, and proving that empowering girls and women drives Nigeria’s long-term development.
