EnvironmentTechnology ChinaGiant Two-Headed Turbine Promises Breakthrough in Clean Energy
In China, a bold leap for renewable energy is underway as Ming Yang Smart Energy unveils plans for a 50-megawatt floating wind turbine featuring two massive rotors on a single platform.
“This new twin-rotor turbine represents the next frontier in offshore wind — bigger, more efficient, and more affordable,” said Zhang Chuanwei, Chairman of Ming Yang Smart Energy.
The innovation is designed to significantly reduce costs and increase offshore wind capacity, marking a new chapter in global clean energy progress. Each of the two 25-MW turbines will sit on a floating base, delivering power at one-fifth the cost of today’s European offshore turbines. Mass production is set to begin next year at Ming Yang’s Guangdong facility, with plans to scale up to 150 units annually. Building on the success of its 16.6-MW OceanX platform, this next-generation 50-MW model could redefine how countries harness ocean winds, accelerating the shift toward a cleaner, more affordable energy future.
