Golden Globes’s First Indigenous Best Actress Winner!

For the first time in history, an Indigenous woman won Best Actress at the Golden Globes.

“This is for every little rez kid, every little urban kid, every little Native kid out there who has a dream, who is seeing themselves represented and our stories told – by ourselves, in our own words – with tremendous allies and tremendous trust from and with each other,” says Lily Gladstone in her acceptance speech.

The actress spent her early years on the Indigenous Blackfeet Reservation in Montana, United States, and has both Blackfeet and Nez Perce heritage. Her Golden Globe comes after her role as Mollie Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon, which even captured some scenes of her speaking the Blackfeet language. Gladstone is only the second Indigenous actress in the Golden Globes’ history to receive a nomination – and the first to win. The actress has also recently won two other awards for her role in the movie at the National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics Circle. Gladstone’s winning streak may continue at the upcoming Oscars in March, where she will make history again.
