Here’s How AI Might Help Us Talk to Animals

Scientists are now using AI to decode animal vocalisations and behaviours, edging us toward what could become interspecies conversation.

“They are on the verge of deciphering one [animal language] using the power of AI,” the article says, pointing to efforts like the Coller-Dolittle Challenge.

Teams are analysing massive datasets from species like 170 wild bottlenose dolphins and also studying animals such as cuttlefish, nightingales, and marmosets. The Coller-Dolittle Challenge offers a $10 million prize for developing algorithms that can interpret non-human communication. Experts believe that by combining AI with biological insights, we can begin making real progress in understanding and perhaps someday communicating with other species.
