I Used to Work in Plastics, Now I Run ‘Plastic Attack’

An environmentally-interested person, I only became “plasticarian” after I spent a year working in the plastic industry. While I now look back with mixed feelings, this job taught me a lot about the technical side of the business.

When I started Plastic Attack Barcelona, I wanted to create consciousness about the severity of our plastic problem.

Thanks to social media I convinced more people to join me in the first action we organized in a supermarket right in the middle of Las Ramblas; even local TV came to film it! We were protesting with our home-made signs and people were listening. More than that, we tried to make people question the amount of plastic packaging with which they had left the store.

With protests actions like this and several beach clean-ups, we demonstrated the amount of plastic waste that our current production and consumption system are generating. The good message is, if you live in a city like Barcelona, there are alternatives if you want to find them.
