Don’t Throw Your Old Salad Bowl, Says Retail Giant: Let’s Turn It into a Birdhouse!

IKEA’s on a major mission to reduce waste: the Canadian branch has put out instruction manuals that help customers give their old items new life, by repurposing them for different uses.

“We really believe in the power of small, sustainable acts that people can take in their daily lives,” says the Swedish retailer in a statement in an effort to encourage its customers to live more responsibly with its products.

The “Repurposeful Instructions” are filled with directions for beginning, intermediate, and advanced upcycling projects. This decision is part of IKEA’s commitment to be fully circular by 2030, meaning that the company designs products using renewable, recycled, and recyclable materials. It also plans on completely eliminating waste.
