Big Move Against Smog in India, as the Entire Country Switches to World’s Cleanest Fuel

India is switching to the world’s cleanest petrol and diesel starting the 1st of April, jumping from Bharat Stage IV (BS-IV) emission compliant fuels straight to BS-VI in a groundbreaking achievement that’s taken merely three years.

The Indian Bharat Stage emission standards are based on the European regulations aimed at regulating air pollution caused by vehicular emissions.

“We are absolutely on track for supplying BS-VI fuel from April 1. Almost all refineries have begun supplying BS-VI fuel and the same has reached storage depots across the country,” says Sanjiv Singh, chairman of Indian Oil Corporation, which controls around half of the country’s fuel market.

By April, India is expected to be among the select countries strictly using petrol and diesel containing only 10 parts per million of Sulphur, replacing every drop of fuel with the new one in a fight to significantly reduce smog.
