Environment AustraliaLargest-of-Its-Kind Green Project Is Complete!
Australia has completed the erection of all 1,500 steel towers for its largest-ever transmission project, a major step toward connecting renewable energy across three states and strengthening the national grid.
“This project gives industry and consumers peace of mind as coal generation winds down, stabilising the grid at a critical moment,” said Gordon Taylor, major projects executive manager at Transgrid.
The 700 km EnergyConnect project links New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, with over 10,385 km of high-voltage cabling installed and the western section already energised. Scheduled to be fully powered by late 2026, the network will accelerate Australia’s transition toward its 2030 target of 82% renewable electricity while improving reliability as ageing coal plants retire.
