Society BrazilLowest Violent Crime Record in Well Over a Decade!
Brazil has recorded the year 2023 with the lowest record of intentional lethal violent crimes since 2010, saving countless lives and making the country increasingly safer.
“These statistics are the translation and concretization of this system,” explains Flávio Dino, Minister of Justice and Public Security. “Public security is an issue that encompasses the whole of society, but the biggest victims are precisely the poorest, so it’s also a social and institutional issue too.”
In 2023, there were 40,429 Intentional Lethal Violent Crimes (ILVCs), compared to 2022, which recorded 42,190 ILVCs, a yearly decrease of 4.17%. Intentional homicide, robbery resulting in death, femicide, and bodily injury followed by death are considered ILVCs. Records show that there also has been a decrease in the leading security indicators and deforestation in the Amazon, improved relations with states and municipalities, efforts to halt crimes against women and children, and a commitment to the policy of removing illegal weapons from circulation.
