Famous Philanthropist Donates Billions… For the Third Time in a Year!

The American billionaire dubbed as the most generous and influential philanthropist working today has decided to give almost $3 billion worth of donations, her third round over the last 11 months, as per her promise to give her fortune away.

“Me, Dan [Jewett, her husband], a constellation of researchers and administrators and advisors — we are all attempting to give away a fortune that was enabled by systems in need of change,” says MacKenzie Scott, whose $60 billion fortune comes from her divorce settlement with Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos. “I hope to de-emphasize privileged voices and cede focus to others.”

This time around, the philanthropist decided to give a combined $2.74 billion to 286 organizations including higher-education institutions like the University of California and the University of Texas, arts groups like Apollo Theater and Ballet Hispánico, nonprofits working to fight racial injustices like Race Forward and Borealis Philanthropy, but also groups that focus on gender equity and domestic violence. This takes her total in donations to more than $8 billion in less than a year.
