Most Powerful Space Telescope Takes Off

NASA’s revolutionary new Space Telescope took off from Kourou, in French Guiana, and by mid-2022, Hubble’s successor will have reached its exploring destination to push our knowledge of the universe to new hights.

The JWST – which stands for James Webb Space Telescope – mission is to discover exoplanets and the furthest reaches of the universe some 1.5 million kilometers directly behind our planet, but also to help us learn more about what we already know as well as find out so much more we don’t know yet.

The largest and most powerful space telescope experienced a vacuum of space for three minutes and a half following its launch. Once separated from the launch vehicle, the telescope unfurls its solar panels and will begin its journey towards its final orbit, the second Lagrangian Point – or L2 – of the Sun-Earth system.
