My Desert Rose Became a Window to the World

When we were all still in lockdown this summer, like so many of you, I spent more time than usual surfing through the internet and social media pages. A friend invited me to join a Facebook group called ‘View from my window’ which I found fascinating.

People from all kinds of places simply post exactly that: views from their windows. I thought ‘traveling’ around the world through these pictures was simply awesome in the lockdown situation. So, I looked at our garden and the wonderful desert rose pot I love so much, took a picture and sent it, but for quite a while nothing happened.

Yesterday I was so surprised to find weeks later my “view from the window” got published. And even more surprised that thousands – yes THOUSANDS! –  of people commented on my snapshot with good wishes for my safety and wellbeing. From all around the world! America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Europe you name it… The feeling of togetherness this triggered in me is hard to describe. It was incredible!

Suddenly I felt connected with all these fellow humans, actually strangers to me, in a time, where a connection with people is so rare due to lockdowns and restrictions in the pandemic. It truly proved to me that we all are in this together and standing together is the only way. It surely made my world better!
