Girl Called Adrenaline Pumps up Comic Book Classic Asterix for Sixty Years Celebration

The 60-year anniversary of the famous comic book series, Asterix the Gaul, comes not only with the release of a 38th album, but also with a character unlike any other the series has ever developed: a rebellious teenage heroine named Adrenaline.

There have been a few other female heroines in previous albums – including a progressive working woman named Bacteria – but female characters have been assigned minor roles far more often, with a tendency to focus on their charm rather than their personality.

“We didn’t want to develop a character who would be based on her seductive side as we usually do with female characters in Asterix,” says says illustrator Didier Conrad. “Most of the time they are young attractive women who seduce Obelix and their role stops there.”

Asterix and the Cheftain’s Daughter, released on October 24th, is the first of its kind to focus on the experiences of a young girl exploring her adolescence.
