“No” to Fur: Major Fashion Houses Are Going Vegan

The majority of luxury brands have gone fur-free in recent years, with Moncler and Dolce & Gabbana being the latest two to ban animal fur in exchange for sustainable alternatives.

The two luxury brands are joining other fashion houses and brands such as Gucci, Canada Goose, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman. “The entire fashion system has a significant social responsibility role that must be promoted and encouraged: we will integrate innovative materials into our collections and develop environmentally friendly production processes,” says Dolce & Gabbana communication and marketing officer Fedele Usai. “A more sustainable future can’t contemplate the use of animal fur.”

The fur ban is just the first of many changes luxury brands will likely undertake in the near future. The phasing out of exotic skins, angora, and down and investment instead into plant-based and recycled materials is likely a trend that will ensue in the coming months and years.
