One of the Most Famous Churches in the World Set to Reopen This Year

Notre Dame Cathedral’s renovation is coming into its final months.

People visiting or living in the French capital can now see the cathedral’s new spiral when passing by, adorned with a golden rooster on top – the emblem of the country. The last few months in particular have seen remarkable progress for the cathedral’s reconstruction.

Set to officially reopen to the public on December 8, 2024, this latest partial removal of scaffolding gives hope to a monument under reconstruction for nearly five years after it was ravaged by fire in April 2019. This reopening is being eagerly awaited by Parisians and tourists alike, with visitor numbers standing in the millions before the fire. The hope is that even though the monument will not yet open for the Olympic Games hosted in Paris this summer, Notre Dame will have a finished roof and spiral, giving it a “completed” look from outside the cathedral.
